Sermon – Pastor Tim – Nobodies Become Somebodies

Nobodies Become Somebodies

August 17, 2014 – Pastor Tim – “Nobodies Become Somebodies”

1 Corinthians 1:27-31, But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

Remember, it is never too late to be a creative personality.  No matter what happens to you, or when it happens to you, it is never too late to become creative.

I have a friend Mike, a Christian bother, who did not touch an art paintbrush until he was 52 (he has been painting houses for 30 yrs, but, never artsy stuff).  Now his paintings are on exhibition and sell for hundreds of dollars. The Wyland Gallery, the largest gallery in the US, wants a contract for sports art. Major League Baseball wants to do a temporary license plate for his prints.  Mike now teaches art classes, and encourages people to step out and explore their creativity, no matter what their age. God has awakened a new form of creativity in him.

Jesus is the great Awakener.  He stimulates the creative center in each one of us, making us first aware of God, and then aware of the infinite possibilities in God.  In His company we begin to see farther, feel for people on a wider scale, and act more decisively.  Jesus takes the nobodies and turns them into somebodies.  He was the maker of men and still is.

No one can be in His company for very long without feeling an irresistible urge to roll up their sleeves and say, “Where do I begin?” For the creative impulse comes from contact with the creative God.

1 Peter 4:2-3, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.

(testimony…my conversion, and call)
Peter went on to say in.

1 Peter 4:7-11, But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Plan for creative achievement and put your plan into operation by however small a beginning.

Say to yourself, I’m through with asking for pity, for compassion—I don’t want sympathy—I want a task, an open door—I’m through with living on a No; I’m going to live on a Yes—I’m not inferior since I have hold of a superior God, and He has hold of me.

I no longer belong to those who look back, for those who look back cannot fit into the Kingdom of God, and I belong to the Kingdom of God—the Kingdom of the forward-looking.

So here is some homework for us this week…write down all your negative thoughts, and then tear them up as a symbol that they no longer exist.  Then write down your positive thoughts about what you can do, and begin at once to express these thoughts in however small a blessing.  If you cannot do one thing, flee forward and do the next thing. Decide to do what you have decided to do, and then do it…now.

Say as you go out each day,

Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Repeat it the last thing before you fall asleep at night and the first thing in opening your eyes in the morning. The subconscious mind is very susceptible to those periods.  It will get into the subconscious and work with you, make you positive and creative.
