Wait for it

Wait for it...

January 4, 2015 – Pastor Tim – “Wait for it…”

Psalm 27:14,
Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

It is God’s timing that we must learn.  He synchronizes His answers according to His purpose.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace.

Timing is everything… There will be time, for everything God wants us to do, we can depend upon it. God’s plans won’t come up short.

We cannot make more of it (time that is, 24/7 it’s all the same). We can only receive it and be faithful stewards in the use of it. I know it can feel like an airplane suspended in the air when God says “Wait!”

Have you ever been on a plane and been told your flight could not land at its scheduled time?

The air traffic controller instructed that your plane should wait in the air.  What a strange place to wait—in the air!  (Ever felt like everything in life is up in the air?  Ya, me too!)

So we’re flying along on the plane and the Captain comes over the PA system, “We are going to assume a holding pattern until further instructions come from the tower.”  After some time, a few concerned outspoken passengers may be begin to question the air traffic controller’s decision.  It’s not before all the passengers are getting concerned.

The anxious looks and acidic remarks that come from the crowd subside as the attendant quickly eases people’s fear.  She informs the worried passengers that planes always carry enough fuel to withstand the demands of these kinds of delays.  There is a calm assurance on the face of the attendants.  This calm is most likely due to the fact that they had prepared for the delay. It makes you wonder if we as children of God shouldn’t be prepared for those times in our lives when God speaks from His throne, “Assume a holding pattern until further notice.”

Matthew 25:1-4, “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.  3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

The question is not always, “Do you have enough faith to receive?”  Sometimes it is this: “Do you have enough faith to assume a holding pattern and wait for the fulfillment of the promise?”

We feel a deep sense of contentment when we know God has not forgotten us.  I’m sure we have all experienced a time or two when we went through a tremendous struggle, and thought it was an emergency.  We thought we had to have an answer right then, but learned that God isn’t easily as spooked by what we call an emergency!

Isaiah 40:31, But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

This is our promise. If we will trust His timing, He will bring His plan to pass.
